Rurouni Kenshin (1996)
Originally titled Rurouni Kenshin, Samurai X in Brazil, is set in the early years of the Meiji era in Japan. For 10 years, Kenshin wandered around Japan until he found shelter at the Kamiya Dojo, where the young Kaoru Kamiya taught kendo in the Kamiya Kashin (Sword for Life) style. The young ronin's wandering had a purpose: to visualize the countless deaths he had caused during the Bakumatsu when he was a hitokiri (shredding assassin) in the service of the Ishin Shishi (monarchists who wanted to restore the government to the hands of the emperor) of the Choushuu fiefdom. At this time, Kenshin became known as Hitokiri Battousai, due to his great skill with Battoujutsu, a technique in which he draws his sword in one continuous movement and makes a cut. Even with the victory of the monarchists that culminated in the overthrow of the Tokugawa Shogunate, giving rise to the Meiji Era, Kenshin, repentant for the countless lives he had taken, decided never to kill again. Even at the end of his long journey, the ex-hitokiri will once again have to wield his sakabatou (a sword with a blade on the back) to face new and old enemies.
