Badly injured and dumped in an alley, Joe (Charlotte Gainsbourg) is found by an older man, Seligman (Stellan Skarsgard), who offers her help. He takes her home, where she can rest and recover. When he wakes up, Joe begins to tell Seligman details about his life. Assuming that she is a nymphomaniac and that she is by no means a good person, she recounts some of the sexual adventures she has experienced in order to justify her self-assessment.
