Ichigo Kurosaki is a 15-year-old boy who has a strange ability to see, touch and talk to the spirits of dead people. As soon as the shinigami Rukia Kuchiki learns of Ichigo's powers, she goes after him to investigate, and ends up in a fight with a Hollow who has been attracted by Ichigo's strong spiritual power. Before being defeated by the creature, Rukia passes her powers on to Ichigo, who becomes a shinigami, and after defeating the Hollow goes on a journey to protect humans and spirits from the threat of the Hollows.
