Strange murders begin to occur in Tokyo. Due to the liquid evidence in the cases, the police have concluded that the attacks are the result of a creature that feeds on other beings, an "eater" type ghoul. Two college friends, Kaneki and Hide, come up with the theory that ghouls are imitating humans, which is why they are never seen or captured. They can't even imagine that this theory could be true and things will get out of hand, as Kaneki ends up getting involved, unknowingly, with one of these creatures, which, when attacking the boy, ends up dying accidentally, but leaves him seriously injured and on the verge of death. The only salvation? A transplant involving the creature itself, but one that could have terrible consequences for Kaneki. What will happen from now on?
