Jujutsu Kaisen, the highlight of the fall season
From time to time the stars align and a cosmic event takes place called: shounen anime of the highest quality. This is the case with Jujutsu Kaisen, which has been impressing us otaku since the first episode, when Itadori Yuji burst through the window with a kick, saving his classmate from a curse that had attacked the school.
As well as an engaging and charismatic main character, Jujutsu Kaisen also has a super powerful ally, Gojo Satoru. It’s classic shounen anime to have someone so powerful that we hardly know what their real strength is.
Gojo Satoru and the best fight we’ve seen in a long time
Yuji’s sensei’s strength was evident in episode 7, when he defeated a very powerful curse called Jougo with basically no effort. His “Mugen” was enough to prevent any attack from reaching him and also to stop enemy movements.
Something incredible that also happened in this fight was the fact that it took Gojo about 10 seconds to pick up his pupil from school, to whom he wanted to demonstrate the expansion of his dominance.

I don’t think I’ve been this excited about a fight since Levi finished off the Bestial Titan in Shingeki no Kyojin. The fact is that Goju is one of a select group of characters in shounen anime who have powers that are truly out of the ordinary and leave most characters in the dust.
Gojo Satoru and the educational revolution
As the most powerful Jujutsu Sorcerer in the world, Gojo has openly said that he could kill all the snakes at the top of the system, but that wouldn’t solve the world’s problem. The people at the top would simply be replaced by others of the same character and he wouldn’t have the support of the others.
Precisely because he knew that the revolution had to start at the bottom, Gojo Satoru decided to become a teacher. I like to see this thought in a shounen anime, which doesn’t focus on leading to these reflections, since it’s much more impactful than if it were in some slice of life.

I read somewhere in the blogosphere that Goju’s thoughts even align with Paulo Freire’s, with education as the focus for changing society. Unfortunately, I’m from a technology background, so I’ll wait for a teacher or a pedagogue to come forward to find out if this is really true.
Other reasons why Jujutsu Kaisen excels
Our charismatic and engaging characters don’t stop at Yuji or Goju, in fact practically all the characters introduced so far have strong and unique personalities. It’s really easy to like some characters and hate others, which makes me get more and more involved with the work.

Another important factor is the quality of Jujutsu Kaisen’s animation. I think it’s as good as Kimetsu no Yaiba, which is no small feat. The animations are fluid and the characters are very well-drawn, so right from the trailer I knew that this anime would be one of the highlights of the fall season.
One thing I also like is that, just like in Hunter x Hunter, things happen quickly. There’s nothing that annoys me more than an anime that drags on for too many episodes unnecessarily. Goju’s fight against Jougo only lasted one episode, which already motivates me to watch the anime.
To summarize, the 3 main qualities that I see in Jujutsu Kaisen and that make me desperately follow the anime every Friday are:
- Character development
- Animation quality
- The speed of plot development
What can we expect from Jujutsu Kaisen?
My expectations for Jujutsu Kaisen are extremely high and I strongly believe that I won’t be disappointed. Maybe the time has finally come for someone to fill the space left by Kimetsu no Yaiba and break viewer records.
For now, I can only hope that Goju decides to murder his superiors and that Yuji eats a few more of Sukuna’s fingers.
